"It's about remembering the war dead." FULL FUCKING STOP.
Using it for any other agenda either shows you really don't understand the sacrifices of the fallen, or feel that YOU and what you absolutely have to say is far, far more important that a few stiffs you never met.
It's a mark of RESPECT for those who, often without the privilege of choice in the matter, never came back and has fuck all to do with contemporaneous issues, political, military or otherwise.
Grow the fuck up and show them the respect you expect or demand others show you. They've shown you theirs by already laying down their lives for you. What fucking more do you want of them?

She does not wear one as she supports multiple charities and does want to advertise one more than the other, seems reasonable to me

Pretty sure "Wear this symbol on your clothes or we'll kill you" was part of the bad guys' agenda...

My old dad long declined to wear a Poppy, even though he'd served (Navy) for 7 years.
Why?
He came back and worked, voluntarily, with the Legion. Left quickly, said it was a "corrupt" organisation. More concerned with piss ups than any true charitable deeds.
Anyway, is it not Remembrance DAY? Not a fucking month of just wearing a £1 token!

If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

She's actually figure signalling by not wearing one so people ask her why and she can spout her nonsense about how she can't have a favourite charity and doesn't want to offend any of them.

You are right about time but I guess I am okay with society holding onto some kind of understanding that is not historical for as long as it possibly can. Even if it is duty for some.
For me doing something out of duty is better than not doing it, if it is a decent thing to do.

I didnt say that, I said ONE DAY it will be. Like Waterloo is for us.
IOC.
Yeah I get that and so did I, recognition from Us( I used Respect) is the least we can do...but again it goes back to that connection again. You and I dont reflect on those sacrifices out of duty, we do it because its important to us. Time will remove that importance unfortunately.

I spoke with my grandfather about it off and on until his death. He was not eager to go to war, he had just started a young family and had been forced to take over the family farm. He went out of duty, the least we can do is recognize that, even if it is out of duty.
I guess the bottom line is, as much it was hard and brought back bad memories, he appreciated Remembrance Day ceremonies and when people acknowledged the sacrifices people he knew had made.

Maybe I didnt make myself clear.
I did say future generation , I meant Generations to come..not the one that are alive now but the future.
Im not putting words in to dead mens mouth.
Go find a veteren and ask them. They dont want to talk about it on the whole, they dont want special thanks, they want respect and to see their families live a happy life enjoying the benefits that they fought for...Im sure they wouldnt want people forced to thank them. Duty is Obligation and obligation is the last thing I would want from anybody.
I teach my Kids about this stuff. Every year on my Grandads birthday, the medals come off the wall and get a polish and when the kids were younger I would explain...But that is history.
As for genealogy, nothing is more important to me than family history and that comes from My Dad. My Dad was one of the countries foremost Genealogists back in the day. I understand the love of it. :)

"If my people like Grandfather thought that their sacrifices and that of their friends meant that people of future generations were obligated to do these things out of duty rather than desire, they would say that the time has come to let history do the remembering and for the living to just to enjoy the benefits of the deads labour."
I think you are putting words in the dead's mouths there which I find a bit off, certainly more so that doing a decent thing out of duty. We do lots of things out of duty in our lives.
Instead of throwing up you hands and saying let history remember, teach the kids why this is important and teach them about the people. One of the reasons I do genealogy is to give me a personal connection to history.
Overall though, as I said, she has the right to do what she wants, thankfully but I did not find a compelling argument for that in buried in what you wrote.

How do you know the wearer has contributed to the cause firstly because from what I hear individuals, about to go on screen, have a poppy dotted to them?
